Health insurance budget deficit reaches almost 2 billion lei

In the first five months of 2026, the National Health Insurance Company (AOAM) accumulated revenues of more than LE 5.7 billion in the compulsory health insurance funds.

These savings increased by MDL 358 million, or 6.7%, compared to the same period in 2025.

The largest part of the income comes from health insurance contributions in the taxation of salaries. It exceeded 4 billion lei, 353 million more than in the same period last year.

Mandatory fixed-amount health insurance premiums amounted to approximately MDL 425 million, up by MDL 103 million compared to the first five months of last year.

Other revenues to AOAM funds, including contributions from residents of information technology parks, amounted to approximately 146 million lei, 23 million more than the amount recorded in the same period last year.

At the same time, expenditures for January-May amounted to more than 7.6 million lei. Moreover, most of these funds were transferred to contractors providing medical and pharmaceutical services.

The amount transferred for paid medical services, medicines and medical devices is about 750 million lei higher than in the same period last year.
