
The new mechanism is being developed to fulfill the tasks of the competent authorities in preventing, detecting, investigating and combating crime. The authorities promise that access to the database will be strictly regulated and all actions within the system will be recorded and monitored.
A draft government decree on the approval of the Concept of the information system “Register of Images of Persons” and regulations on the procedure for its maintenance is being developed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It provides for the creation of a separate digital platform with rules for storing, processing and using facial images.
It is also planned to determine which structures will administer the system, who will be able to transmit data and who will have access to it. In addition, it is planned to make the system compatible with other state databases and international police cooperation infrastructures as part of the harmonization of Moldovan legislation with EU norms.
The ministry promises to pay special attention to personal data protection and information security.
It should be reminded that in 2025, the structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs carried out 32.9 million accesses to the state information systems with personal data – registers of population, real estate, transport, drivers and legal entities. This is almost 5 million more than in the previous year.
