Georgia will continue to receive “social” gas for another 20 years

"Gas will be supplied to Georgia at a social tariff for the next 20 years, and for this, of course, special thanks should be expressed to the Azerbaijani side," Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said at a briefing at the government administration.

According to the head of the government, agreements were signed within the framework of the visit to Azerbaijan, which are of stage importance in several directions.

“The first direction is related to the import and transit of gas from Azerbaijan. Here, the extension of the social gas agreement was of particular importance. This agreement was concluded for 20 years, and it expired at the end of this year. It was especially important for our country and our people that the contract was extended for another 20 years. Social gas at a social tariff, at a social price will be supplied to Georgia for the next 20 years. For this, of course, we should express special gratitude to the Azerbaijani side,” Irakli Kobakhidze said, quoted by Georgia Online.

According to the Prime Minister, the Georgian side has also achieved very good results in the issues of import and transit of electricity.

The head of the government did not talk about the details of the contract, noting that they are a commercial secret.

“If it were not a commercial secret, it would be even clearer to the society what huge benefits this agreement brings to our country and society. We have very good results in the direction of electricity, which is extremely beneficial for the country and society,” Kobakhidze noted.

The Georgian Prime Minister also said that after three years of complete shutdown of the Baku-Tbilisi-Supsa oil pipeline its work will be restored.

“As a result of months-long negotiations, we have agreed with the Azerbaijani side to restore the work of this pipeline, and on this basis our country will annually receive tens of millions of GEL of income. We have agreed with the Azerbaijani side on very good terms. There is also a commercial secret here,” Irakli Kobakhidze noted.
