AI is becoming part of the U.S. defense infrastructure
It is about access to secure digital circuits of IL5 and IL6 level, which are used to process sensitive military information and infrastructure tasks of the US Department of Defense, Breaking Defense specifies. The project also involves Amazon Web Services, Oracle, SpaceX and Palantir.
In fact, Washington is beginning to transfer artificial intelligence technologies from the commercial sphere to the system of strategic government infrastructure. This is one of the most visible steps to integrate generative AI into the U.S. defense sector since the global AI boom began.
According to US industry publications, companies will be able to deploy their AI services inside the Pentagon’s closed loops for data analysis, process automation, cybersecurity and military decision support.
Why this is changing the AI market
The new phase of collaboration shows that competition between major companies is gradually moving beyond consumer services and enterprise software. It is increasingly seen as an element of national security and geopolitical influence.
Against this background, the absence of Anthropic from the list is particularly significant. According to the US media, the reason could have been disagreements over restrictions on the use of AI in surveillance systems and military projects.
The situation points to the formation of a new division within the AI market – between companies ready for deep integration with government and defense structures and developers adhering to a more cautious approach.
Big Tech’s increased participation in military AI projects also intensifies global competition for computing power, data centers, and energy resources. It is clear that if the military is interested, priority will be given to those companies with which the military or other government security agencies work closely.
