According to the draft government decree, which amends the current 2024 regulations, the agency will use unified criteria to assess shipping companies. This includes compliance with the International Safety Management Code (ISM) and analysis of which countries’ ships are flagged.

The new rules provide for more accurate risk assessment methods, expanded checklists for inspections and a stricter approach to identifying high-risk vessels. It is also planned to unify inspection procedures and harmonize terminology to international standards, including the reporting format.

The document was prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development together with the Maritime Agency of the Republic of Moldova. Its goal is to strengthen control in the port and increase the level of maritime safety.

The project should be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
