“Digitalization is a success story for Moldova, and in the field of artificial intelligence we are at an early stage of development with significant growth potential. We have state-of-the-art monitoring and risk assessment systems, but we need to reach a level where AI will generate content and value on its own. For this, it is crucial to offer the private sector a clear and predictable framework with well-defined licensing and monitoring rules that will enable innovation, including in strategic areas where AI will become a defining factor,” said Eugeniu Osmochescu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization.
Priority tasks
At the first meeting, the structure and composition of the Sub-Council were reviewed, and an interdisciplinary team was formed to develop the AI ecosystem in the Republic of Moldova. Communication mechanisms and frequency of interaction between members were also established to ensure a flexible decision-making process. At the same time, priorities were outlined, as well as short- and medium-term goals aimed at positioning the Republic of Moldova on the regional innovation map.
Another item of discussion was the legislative and socio-political agenda. SCIA members will cooperate in the elaboration and approval of the main strategic documents, implementation of the Law on AI in the national legislation and strengthening institutional governance by appointing a body responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the AI policy in our country.
Subsequently, the Sub-Council will carry out its activities through thematic working groups aimed at ensuring the effective implementation of the established priorities and the concerted strengthening of the AI ecosystem in the Republic of Moldova.
