Michelle Iliev and Eugeniu Osmochescu
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Eugeniu Osmochescu said that Moldova has already made notable progress in digitalization, but the country is still at the beginning of the road in the field of AI.
According to him, it is important to move to the next stage, when artificial intelligence will be able not only to analyze data, but also to create value on its own. For this, he emphasized, clear rules of the game for business and a clear regulatory system that will simultaneously stimulate innovation are needed.
The new structure was created on the basis of a joint order of the two ministries and is intended as a platform for coordinating efforts in the field of new technologies. According to Michelle Iliev, state secretary for digitalization, it is a broader approach that covers the entire chain – from education and science to economy and regulation.
Strengthen Moldova’s position
At the first meeting, they discussed the format of the work, the composition of the platform and the mechanism of interaction between the participants. They also defined the first tasks, both short-term and strategic, in order to strengthen Moldova’s position in the regional innovation environment.
Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun said that the development of skills in the field of artificial intelligence is becoming a priority. The country is already preparing educational programs, including courses for adults and civil servants.
“It is about making the work of the state faster and more efficient wherever possible,” he said.
A separate block of discussions focused on legislation. SCIA participants will prepare strategic documents, as well as adaptation of the European AI Act to the national legislation. In addition, the body that will be responsible for the implementation and control of AI policy is to be determined.
Further work of the platform will be built through thematic groups that will deal with practical implementation of solutions and development of the AI ecosystem in the country.
Recall that the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization announced the launch of the development of a national program in the field of artificial intelligence and data management for 2026-2030. The goal of the initiative is to change the country’s role on the technological map: from a passive consumer of solutions to a developer of its own products in the field of artificial intelligence.
