During a press conference, Deputy Prime Minister, Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Vladimir Bolia and Labor and Social Protection Minister Natalia Plugaru said that the investments will allow creating, renovating or equipping 155 nursery groups. As a result, 3,144 children under the age of three will have access to modern conditions of care and education. The program will affect more than 6,100 parents and over 5,000 employees of the education system in 142 settlements.

Of the total financing, 251 million lei is allocated from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development, with another 87 million lei provided by local authorities.

“Investments in the country’s development start from the very basics – from the places where children grow up. We are talking about kindergartens and nurseries, about creating real, decent conditions for families,” Vladimir Bolia said.

According to the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Natalia Plugaru, the project will contribute to the growth of employment and, consequently, to the welfare of families and, at the same time, to the reduction of poverty.

“Early childhood education services allow mothers to return to work earlier, as we know that still it is women who mostly stay at home with small children,” the minister said.

Now in Moldova, out of the total number of children under 3 years of age (65,691 children), 16,799 children, or every fourth child of this age group, attend nursery schools. A year earlier, only every fifth child went to a nursery.
