“When the EU extended a 90 billion euro loan to Ukraine and adopted new sanctions against Russia, it acted with unity and determination. The EU should show the same unity in the enlargement process – and immediately officially open negotiations with Moldova and Ukraine,” the head of state said.
The talks between Sandu and Zelensky also touched upon bilateral cooperation in energy, transportation and trade, as well as regional security.
The head of state conveyed a message of solidarity with Ukraine. “Moldova’s security and Ukraine’s security are interconnected,” the president said, adding that “Ukraine, by protecting itself, also protects us.”
We shall remind you that Maya Sandu’s visit to Ukraine is timed to the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.
“The Chernobyl accident showed us that disasters know no borders, but it also revealed the power of international solidarity. The arch erected over the contaminated reactor is proof that countries can do extraordinary things when they act together,” the head of state wrote on social media.
