Instead of the remaining 30 days of emergency, the Cabinet proposes 60 days of heightened readiness

UPDATED. The state of emergency in the energy sector will be lifted ahead of schedule if parliament votes in favor of the government's proposal to end the state of emergency on April 25, rather than in May as previously planned.

According to Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, the decision to lift the state of emergency was dictated by the stability of the energy system: “We have energy, the system is functioning, and the immediate pressure has been overcome”.

Instead of the state of emergency in the energy sector, it is proposed to introduce a state of high readiness (stare de alertă) for 60 days. This is a preventive measure that will allow the authorities to maintain rapid response mechanisms without the use of emergency powers.

“The regional context remains unstable and it is our responsibility to be prepared for any scenario. This is a preventative measure that will allow us to respond quickly and only when necessary. I have stated from the very beginning that the state of emergency is not an end in itself, but a temporary tool,” – said the Prime Minister.

Recall, the state of emergency in the energy sector was introduced March 24 for 60 days due to the damage of the Isaccea-Vulcanesti power line and the risk of power shortages.

UPDATE 22.04.2026

The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to submit a proposal to Parliament to lift the state of emergency.

“It is appropriate to return to a state of heightened readiness, which will allow us to maintain the necessary monitoring and intervention tools to protect consumers and prevent market imbalances. This measure is necessary given the international logistical constraints that reduce supply flexibility and are caused by vulnerabilities in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the ongoing impact of Russian attacks on Ukraine,” Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu stated at a meeting on Wednesday, April 22.
