This is stated in a joint statement by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council António Costa.

Oil supplies to Hungary and Slovakia were interrupted as a result of another Russian strikes on energy infrastructure facilities on January 27.

Ursula von der Leyen and António Costa held intensive talks with member states and Ukraine at all levels to find a solution to resume transit.

Technical and financial assistance to Ukraine

In order to reopen the damaged section of the pipeline as soon as possible, the European Union offered Ukraine:

  • Technical support for complex repair works.
  • Funding is needed for the purchase of equipment and fuel.

According to the text of the statement, the Ukrainian side welcomed and officially accepted this assistance. European experts are already on standby and can start work immediately.

Energy security strategy

The EU notes that the priority is to ensure a stable energy supply for all European citizens.

“We continue to work with stakeholders to find alternative routes for the transit of non-Russian oil to Central and Eastern European countries,” the statement said.
