The club received a technical forfeit
The Dacia-Buiucani home pitch was not prepared for the match, about a third of the pitch was covered with ice. The club management explained this by the desire to preserve the quality of the field, which could be affected in case of cleaning.
“Cleaning was impossible without damaging the artificial turf of the stadium, which we maintain with special attention and significant investment. Moreover, the pitch posed a great danger, the risk of injury to the players was almost inevitable. A significant part of our players represent Moldova in national teams of different ages, and the responsibility for their health is our priority,” said Dacia-Buiucani president Constantin Angel.
The coaching staff, in agreement with the management, decided not to put the team on the field for the safety of the players. According to FMF, the referee brought the opposing team onto the field and immediately blew the whistle to end the match.
“We offered to play the match the next day and our opponent agreed to this proposal. Unfortunately, this option was not accepted by the FMF officials. Our main goal is to prepare the teams for the resumption of the championship, not to formally hold matches in any conditions, regardless of the risks involved. As club president, I made the decision not to jeopardize the health of the players and the integrity of the field for the sake of three points,” emphasized the head of Dacia-Buiucani.
“Winter Cup” traditionally takes place in February with the participation of Super League and Ligue 1 clubs. This year, 11 clubs are participating in the tournament, Dacia-Buiucani is the only representative of the top division.
“Dacia” are the current winners of the tournament, in last year’s final they defeated “Spartanii-Sportul” with the score 6:2.
