“The European Union without Moldova, Ukraine and the Western Balkans cannot be a completed geopolitical project,” Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said at a press conference in Chisinau. – If Europe does not become a strong geopolitical player, we will not achieve security in a global environment that is changing so rapidly today. We will be dominated by others who do not always share our values”.
Following the three Baltic speakers, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kastutis Budris visited Moldova on February 6. The purpose of his visit was to strengthen Moldovan-Lithuanian bilateral relations, deepen political dialog and confirm Lithuania’s support for Moldova’s European course, including in the context of regional security.
He said that he discussed with Deputy Prime Minister and Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popšoi the EU enlargement issue, emphasizing that Moldova has made significant progress in the European integration process.
Friendship based on trust
For his part, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popşoi said that his Lithuanian counterpart’s visit to Chisinau confirms not only a deep political dialog between the two countries, but also a friendship based on trust, common values, views and a future within the European Union.
Mihai Popşoi said he discussed with his Vilnius counterpart the expansion of the bilateral partnership and trade exchange, as well as joint projects that would bring Moldova closer to the big European family.
At the same time, Popšoi expressed confidence that Lithuania, which will take over the EU Council presidency on January 1, 2027, will play a key role in promoting the EU’s enlargement, “especially when it comes to Moldova and Ukraine.
