Moldova joins Creative Europe

On 26 November, the cabinet approved a draft law on the ratification of an agreement between Moldova and the EU on participation in this programme.

The prospect of receiving funding from European funds will give Moldova a wider opportunity to implement cultural projects, participate in international events, and young talents will have chances to develop new skills in the field of art and culture. In addition, the Creative Europe program will facilitate the mobility of artists and the exchange of experience between professionals from different countries, thus contributing to the competitiveness and recognition of cultural sectors.

“This year, the EU is allocating 380 million euros for similar projects in which representatives of Moldova’s cultural sector can participate,” Culture Minister Cristian Jardan said.

This partnership will also diversify the cultural offer in the country by organizing events, exhibitions, film screenings and performances. The program will also contribute to the development of creative industries, creating jobs and stimulating the local economy.

The agreement was signed on September 2 during a visit to Moldova by European Commissioner Glenn Micallef and should now be submitted to the Parliament for ratification.

According to the website https://euneighbourseast.eu, the agreement will be applied on a temporary basis from the moment of its signing. Moldova’s full participation in the cross-sector strand and the MEDIA component of the program will depend on whether national legislation meets the conditions set out in the Audiovisual Media Services Directive.

“Creative Europe” is the European Commission’s flagship program to support the cultural and audiovisual media sectors through projects and the involvement of thousands of professionals from across the continent. The program consists of two strands – Culture and MEDIA – and is supported by a cross-sector strand (Cross-sector strand). The Creative Europe budget for 2021-2027 is €2.44 billion.
