Gas tariffs will not change until January

This was announced by Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu and ANRE Director Alexei Taran at the press club meeting. Alexei Taran noted that tariff adjustment is a complex process, involving several stages and analyses, including the assessment of procurement costs and regional and European market dynamics, as well as the verification of investment plans.

Indeed, gas for Moldova is purchased for the whole heating season, but the exact price for the next month becomes known on the last day of the previous month, i.e. we will know the exact price for December on November 30. Therefore, Energocom cannot present tariff calculations now.

In any case, the purchase price is at least 10% lower than last year.

Alexei Taran clarified that ANRE sets the annual regulated income for suppliers, and the tariff is calculated according to the approved methodology, taking into account this minimum profit and all costs, including the cost of gas purchase. The approved annual income is divided by the amount of gas to be supplied during the regulation period or calendar year. According to him, in order to be able to analyze all the components necessary to establish a fair price, it is important that all these elements are clear, which will only be possible after the end of the fiscal year, i.e. after January 1.

The head of ANRE also added that the reduction may not be very significant, as the distribution and transportation costs have increased in Moldova, which now reach 28% of the final price. And the purchase price in the final tariff is 60%, not 80%, as it used to be.

For his part, Dorin Junghietu added that pressure on prices is exerted by the fact that storage facilities in the EU are almost full, while in Romania they are completely full.

In addition, Greece, Ukraine and Hungary have agreed on large purchases of liquefied gas from US companies, which also reduces pressure on prices and removes the problem of shortages.

The minister also asked media representatives not to speculate on the topic of allegedly Russian gas supplies to Moldova via third countries.

“According to S&P Global, only Serbia, Hungary and Slovakia currently receive Russian gas, and each of these countries uses it for its own needs,” Dorin Junghietu said.
