Finance Minister Andrian Gavrilica held a meeting with the head of the International Organization for Migration’s mission in Moldova, Esther Ruiz De Azua, to discuss the launch of the project. The ministry said that during the meeting, the priorities of the project were analyzed in the context of the regional situation and Moldova’s progress in the EU accession process.
The sides stressed the project’s focus on investments in technologies, digitalization, infrastructure and mobility, complementing the training and expertise provided to Moldova so far. The minister emphasized that this support is crucial for the development of modern and secure solutions that will benefit both citizens and the business community, while contributing to strengthening border security.
The sides discussed the need to interoperate all the IT platforms of the Customs Service and to adjust the customs procedures to the European standards, as well as the need for technical and institutional assistance to speed up the modernization process, which will contribute to the fulfillment of Moldova’s commitments to implement priority reforms within the EU accession process.
The sides agreed to continue discussing this issue in order to identify the main directions of action and cooperation in the nearest future.
EUBAM Moldova is the European Union’s technical advisory mission for cross-border assistance to Moldova and Ukraine. Established on November 30, 2005 at the request of the Presidents of Moldova and Ukraine to strengthen borders in line with European standards, to combat smuggling and illegal migration, and to contribute to the peaceful settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict.
The Mission is helping to modernize controls at the joint border, implementing European standards and procedures for faster crossing of people and goods. EUBAM supports confidence-building measures between Chisinau and Tiraspol, for example in the areas of transportation and customs clearance.
