All the goals were scored five minutes before the end of the main time of the match. Rashid Ibrahim Akanbi, a Nigerian legionnaire of Sherif, opened the scoring in the 85th minute when he finished a pass from the left flank. In the 89th minute, Orhei striker Michael Gopi Stephen scored the return goal for Victor Straistar. The decisive goal was Akanbi’s second goal in extra time.

At the end of the match, Milsami head coach Igor Pikuschak named “lack of emotions” among the reasons for the defeat. “A lot of emotions were lost in winning the championship. We talked about it, but in any case we tried to play, to control. But, unfortunately, we did not manage to play the kind of soccer we wanted. I don’t see it as a big deal,” said the coach of the Red Eagles.

Acting head coach of Sheriff Viktor Mikhailov, in turn, drew parallels between the Super League and the Cup. “We are happy that we achieved the trophy. The match turned out to be very hard. We knew it would be like this. It’s a pity we didn’t manage to win the championship, although the [decisive] game was the same as this one,” the soccer coach concluded.

The decisive match of the Moldovan Cup took place at the main arena of the Sheriff sports complex in Tiraspol. The meeting was officiated by a team of referees headed by Denis Ivlev from Briceni. The match was attended by 8.953 people.

The trophy was the 43rd (including the championship and the Super Cup) in the 28-year history of the Sheriff club. “Wasps” have won the Cup 13 times. “Milsami” possesses two Cups, won in 2012 and 2018.
