President of the Mediterranean Association of Hoteliers and Tour Operators (AKTOB) Kaan Kashif Kavaloglu noted for Anadolu Agency that over 2.3 million tourists visited the region in the first four months of this year.
“Traditionally, the German, Russian and British markets are leading, but this year we expect a significant increase in the number of visitors from Poland. The positive dynamics remained with us even in the winter months. We also expect an increase in tourist traffic from Belgium and the Netherlands,” he said.
In addition, the AKTOB head emphasized the increased flow of Turks living abroad. “Their desire to spend vacations in their homeland gives an additional impetus to the development of the industry,” he stressed.
His optimism is shared by Hakan Saatcioglu, president of the Professional Hotel Managers Association of Turkey, who confirmed that so far the hotel occupancy statistics for the first four months of the year and the level of bookings for the summer months “exceed all forecasts.”
Turkey remains the main tourist destination for Moldovan citizens as well. In 2024, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, 396.9 thousand Moldovans went abroad for vacation through travel agencies. Of these, 45.9% opted for hotels in Turkey.
