Specialists from the Moldova Fruct Association say that apple orchards were significantly affected. The hailstorms were not so strong that they knocked the fruit off the trees and actually destroyed part of the crop. However, a significant number of fruits have hail impact marks on them, which will greatly reduce their potential quality. It is likely that much of the harvest from apple orchards affected by hailstorms will not go to the “fresh market” but only to processing.
The Association urged the State Hydrometeorological Service to increase the launching of anti-hail rockets in case of weather risks.
The situation is also alarming due to the fact that the special anti-hail unit “Soroсa” of the mentioned service is experiencing a shortage of rockets.
