Very little sunflower meal was exported from Moldova – only about 160 tons. However, its average invoice price was almost 14.8 lei/kg. This is the highest price of sunflower meal sent by Moldova to foreign markets over the last five years.
According to the Association of Agricultural and Grain Exporters Agrocereale, the sharp increase in the export price of Moldovan sunflower meal is not related to traditional market trends, but is explained by another reason. Namely, during the mentioned period, organic sunflower meal was supplied from RM, actually by one specialized company (“VI OIL AGRO” SRL). In the first week of March, the export of organic sunflower meal from Moldova continued, during this period about 160 tons of goods were sent abroad at approximately the same price.
Thus, in April-May 2025, the export of sunflower meal was transformed into a format of “unique trade offer of low-volume niche commodity”.
At the same time, the situation with the export of ordinary sunflower meal in the current marketing season in Moldova has sharply degraded. According to Agrocereale, in the period from July 2024 to April 2025 the country exported only a little more than 14 thousand tons of this commodity, while for the same period last season – more than 155 thousand tons. In value terms, meal exports fell from 724 million lei to 56 million lei. The sharp drop in sunflower meal exports (a by-product of sunflower processing and sunflower oil production) is also a direct consequence of the severe crisis in Moldova’s oil and fat industry.
