Archaeological investigations will be carried out in the water pipeline construction zone

This settlement of Pelinea III is a late Roman settlement located east of the village of Pelinea, dating from the 4th century AD, founded by a Gothic population under Roman influence.

And the Lower Trajan’s Wall – an impressive ancient fortification over 65 km long, which starts from the banks of the Prut River, crosses the Budjak plain and reaches Lake Katlabug.

The works are carried out by the National Archaeological Agency in partnership with the National Bureau for Regional and Local Development within the framework of the project “Water Supply and Sewerage Security in Moldova” in order to ensure archaeological clearance of lands in the target areas and protection of cultural heritage.

“We expect that this study will make a significant contribution to the study of the past and provide valuable information that will enable safe construction works,” said Sergiu Popovici, Acting Director of the National Archaeological Agency.

The project includes the construction of a 97-kilometer-long water pipeline along the route Cahul – Lebedenco – Pelinei – Havanoasa – Vulcanesti – Alexandru Ioan Cuza. It is also about the expansion of the water supply system in the settlements of Pelinei, Setuc, Gavanoasa, Vladimirovka, Nikolaevca (Cahul district) and at the Vulcanesti Railway Station.
