The demands of the relevant labor unions are to fulfill the commitment to raise salaries effective September 1, 2026, to identify and approve practical solutions for increasing the incomes of education and science workers, to implement an effective compensation policy to attract and retain qualified professionals, and to recognize the strategic role of education and the work of teaching and support staff in the development of society.
The KNPM believes that the commitments made by government agencies to workers must be fulfilled. Uncertainty regarding the implementation of the promised wage increases is causing concern among workers in the education and research sectors.
FPON demands that the authorities fulfill their commitments to raise salaries and provide a specific and clear timeline for their implementation. According to the union, consultations and negotiations with the Ministry of Education and Research have so far failed to yield a compromise solution.
In light of this, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the FPO will hold a union protest rally at the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau. The rally will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The KNPM and the national-sectoral trade union centers that are part of the Confederation declare their solidarity with education and science workers and intend to participate in the protest.
The unions emphasize that their demand is clear and well-founded: to fulfill the commitment to raise the salaries of workers in the education and science sectors effective September 1, 2026.
“Together we are stronger! By uniting, we can make our voices heard!” the KNPM statement reads.
As a reminder, the Chisinau Territorial Sectoral Trade Union Center for Education and Science announced a protest rally outside the Government building on August 19. The reason was the uncertainty surrounding salary increases for education workers. Earlier, the unions sent an open letter demanding that previously made commitments be fulfilled and that salaries for education workers be raised starting September 1, 2026. No response to the letter was received.
