The administration of the state-owned enterprise Calea Ferată a Moldovei (CFM) reported the incident late Saturday evening.
According to CFM, there were no injuries. The railcars did not overturn, and the cargo was not damaged. The company has not yet disclosed the cause of the incident.
A recovery train was dispatched to the scene. Technical crews are working to return the railcars to the tracks and restore service.
CFM stated that it will provide additional information once the work and technical inspections are complete.
“CFM operates 1,157 km of railroad tracks, on which freight and passenger trains run daily. A derailment is a possible operational incident that can occur during the operation of the rail network. CFM teams have been mobilized until service is fully restored,” the company stated.
