The United States Has Appointed an Ambassador to Moldova

On August 7, 2026, the U.S. Senate confirmed Joseph Burkhalter as U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Moldova. The position had been vacant for more than two years following the conclusion of the mission of the previous ambassador, Kent Logsdon, in May 2024.

Joseph Burkhalter

Joseph Burkhalter, an entrepreneur and owner of Burkhalter International LLC who previously worked with the law firm Dentons, was nominated by President Donald Trump in early June. Burkhalter will officially take office after taking the oath of office and presenting his credentials to the President of Moldova.

During Senate confirmation hearings, Joseph Burkhalter identified his top priorities as ensuring the safety of U.S. citizens, expanding the supply of American energy resources to Moldova, strengthening cybersecurity, and developing business ties.

He also expressed strong support for the country’s territorial integrity and a willingness to promote a peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian conflict.

A member of the Republican Party, Burkhalter served for 18 years in the Georgia General Assembly, where he held the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives. His professional background is in real estate and business development.
