According to him, there remains a high level of distrust toward the government among the public, which has intensified following reports of large bonuses and other payments to certain officials.
“We have an issue of distrust toward the government. It became apparent in certain cases involving these exorbitant and unfair salaries. I believe the people have the right to demand greater fairness and greater transparency. Therefore, I have instructed Mr. Buza (Alexei Buza—Secretary General of the Government—ed. Logos Press) to present a series of measures by July 31 to put an end to such excesses. “We will announce our conclusions as early as July 31,” Tofan stated on TV8.
The prime minister noted that this is not a one-time reform capable of immediately resolving all the accumulated problems, but the authorities intend to initiate systemic changes.
“I understand that this is only the beginning of the journey, not a solution to a massive problem in a single day. But as early as July 31, we will present a package of measures. They will address not only state-owned enterprises but also government officials, high salaries, unjustified bonuses, various allowances, financial assistance, and other payments. There is certainly work to be done here,” the prime minister emphasized.
The issue of high pay in the public sector garnered widespread attention following the publication of information about the salaries and bonuses of MoldATSA’s management. Following this, data on compensation at other state-owned enterprises also appeared in the public domain, sparking a debate on the need to revise the compensation system and increase its transparency.
