“I am closely monitoring everything that is happening in the energy sector of the Republic of Moldova, including the diesel fuel and natural gas markets. In light of recent events, I have decided to convene a cabinet meeting tomorrow morning to ensure that the executive branch has all the necessary mechanisms in place to respond promptly if necessary,” said Prime Minister Vasile Tofan.

Earlier today, the government reported that it had already taken steps to replenish diesel fuel reserves. According to the executive branch, two barges carrying approximately 6,000 metric tons of fuel arrived in Moldova over the past 24 hours. In addition, another shipment of a similar volume—about 6,000 metric tons of diesel fuel—is expected to arrive on the same day.

Authorities assert that the additional fuel supplies will allow for a rapid reduction of the current shortage at a number of gas stations.

According to government data, as of July 27, 53 gas stations—less than 10% of the country’s total of 590 stations—had no diesel fuel in stock. Of these, 38 belong to the Lukoil network. By comparison, at the height of the fuel crisis in the spring of 2026, on March 26, 182 gas stations were without diesel fuel.

Government officials attribute the current shortage to low water levels in the Danube, as well as the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, which has disrupted logistics chains and fuel supplies.

Meanwhile, fuel prices will continue to rise. According to Logos Press, starting tomorrow, diesel will increase by 42 bani per liter, and AI-95 gasoline by 24 bani. The maximum price for AI-95 gasoline will be 30.40 lei per liter, and for diesel fuel, 30.71 lei per liter.

In addition, starting August 1, an additional surcharge of 48 bani per liter will be included in the price of gasoline and diesel fuel. The corresponding decision was approved by the Administrative Council of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (NARE) on July 21.
