“Today we opened a road we’ve been waiting for more than 25 years—the Slobozia-Mare bypass in the Cahul district, on National Highway M3. This road, built from scratch, is primarily intended to redirect heavy and transit traffic to the Giurgiulești–Galați border crossing,” said Igor Grosu, Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament, who attended the ceremony, in a social media post.
The road was built in accordance with European standards, featuring modern road markings and, most importantly, constructed by local construction companies with financial support from the EBRD. Now, residents of Slobozia Mare will no longer have to endure the heavy traffic that used to pass through their town, threatening their homes and road safety and causing excessive pollution.
The total length of the completed section is 16.59 km. The contract value was 10.46 million euros. A consortium of two local companies was awarded the contract to build this road.
