These statistics were released in connection with World Drowning Prevention Day. According to the ANSP, the agency received information about water-related fatalities from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU).
The rescue service notes that situations where children are near bodies of water without adult supervision pose a particular danger. In late June, several cases of minors drowning occurred in the country within a short period of time.
In one of these cases, a 10-year-old girl drowned in a body of water near the village of Okyul-Alb in the Drokyevsky District. Another tragedy occurred in the Nisporen district, where a teenager died. In Soroca, a 13-year-old girl drowned in a pond. According to the IGSU, her younger brother was with her at the time of the incident, but there were no adults nearby.
The IGSU also reported on cases where people were rescued. For example, in June, rescuers helped a 12-year-old child out of the water in one of Chisinau’s bodies of water.
The ANSP notes that reducing the number of drownings depends not only on the work of rescue services but also on citizens’ adherence to safety rules. Rescuers urged residents to follow safety rules while spending time near the water. Key recommendations include swimming only in designated areas, not leaving children unattended, and not entering the water in unfamiliar locations.
According to data from Moldova’s General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, 56 people, including 12 minors, died in the country’s bodies of water in 2025.
