For the next six months, Moldovan military personnel will carry out tasks related to ensuring security and protecting military facilities, as well as patrolling the area of responsibility assigned to their unit.
The new contingent consists of 41 service members, including sappers, signalers, infantrymen, drivers, and military medics. They will be stationed at Camp Villaggio Italia in Pec and will be part of Regional Command-West.
At the send-off ceremony, Defense Minister Anatolie Nosaty noted that the participation of Moldovan military personnel in the KFOR operation for more than 12 years confirms the Republic of Moldova’s commitment to strengthening regional peace and security, as well as the high level of training of its personnel.
Armando Pascale, Deputy Head of the Italian Embassy in Moldova, and Agnė Gleveckaitė, Head of the NATO Liaison Office in the Republic of Moldova, who were present at the ceremony, highly commended the professionalism of the Moldovan military personnel and their contribution to the mission’s objectives.
Operation KFOR is led by NATO and aims to maintain a secure environment and freedom of movement in Kosovo. Service members of the Moldovan National Army have been participating in this mission since 2014.
Participation in international peacekeeping missions remains one of the main areas of the Republic of Moldova’s international military cooperation. Serving as part of KFOR allows Moldovan service members to gain practical experience interacting with the armed forces of NATO member states and partner countries within the framework of multinational operations.
