An expert mission funded by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) concluded with the formulation of recommendations for improving border infrastructure and control procedures.
The mission took place from July 13 to 17 with the participation of experts from Latvia and Lithuania. They analyzed the operations of ANSA border inspection posts, assessing the organization of official controls, the compliance of current procedures with EU requirements, existing risks, and the agency’s operational capabilities.
Based on the results of the inspection, the experts prepared technical recommendations calling for the modernization of infrastructure, the improvement of control procedures, and the strengthening of the agency’s institutional capacity.
Preparing for European Requirements
The project is being implemented as part of support for Moldova on its path to EU membership. Its goal is to bring the system of official border controls into compliance with European requirements, including inspections of cargo, passenger baggage, and pets accompanying travelers.
The next phase will involve organizing training programs for ANSA inspectors and implementing European best practices for official controls. This is expected to improve the efficiency of border inspection posts and enhance the national system’s compliance with EU requirements.
