According to the Ministry of Energy, on July 12, trading in the day-ahead market (DAM), operated by OPEM, took place for the full 24 hours, with delivery scheduled for July 13. The average transaction price was approximately 112 euros/MWh, and the weighted average price of electricity was approximately 1,181 lei/MWh, or about 59 euros/MWh.
Most of the 1,104 MWh of electricity was sold between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. at an average price of 2,062 lei/MWh. Between 12:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. and until midnight, 9 MWh were sold at an average price of 2,726 lei/MWh.
The auction results increasingly demonstrate how the energy market works. Between 11:00 and 16:00, when solar power generation peaks, prices fell to approximately 1,000 lei/MWh, and trading volumes were the highest of the entire day. In contrast, during the evening hours, from 7:00 p.m. to midnight, when consumption increases and solar power generation decreases, prices rose to 3,383 lei/MWh.
The Ministry of Energy views these results as a sign that the wholesale electricity market in the Republic of Moldova is becoming more active and competitive. The participation of producers, suppliers, and traders in organized transactions contributes to the formation of transparent and fair electricity prices in line with European Union practices.
