Both were detained in June 2024. They were subsequently remanded in custody, after which that measure was replaced with judicial supervision. As a result, both defendants fled, and now, following the Chisinau court’s sentencing, they have been placed on the wanted list.

A 41-year-old resident of Chisinau stated that he received the substances by mail from Kazakhstan following orders placed via the WhatsApp mobile app, while a 35-year-old woman from Taraclia placed her orders via Instagram. However, the customs declaration required to receive the packages falsely stated that they contained “cosmetics and vitamins,” which, according to the woman, were supposed to help her lose weight.

Nevertheless, their false declarations were refuted by undercover agents to whom these individuals had sold the prohibited substances through ads on the “999” online platform. During searches of the two roommates’ homes, hundreds of capsules containing prohibited substances, weighing a total of nearly half a kilogram, were seized and subsequently destroyed after the verdict was handed down.
