If the cars and trucks are made in factories in the United States, no duties will be levied, Trump wrote in his Truth social media post, svoboda.org reported.
This is a trade pact agreed in 2025 and finalized in early 2026. The agreement provides for the elimination of European duties on American industrial products and sets a tariff ceiling for most goods from Europe.
At present, the document has not entered into force definitively.
Bernd Lange, chairman of the European Parliament’s International Trade Committee, told Reuters that he found Trump’s behavior “unacceptable.” He added that the increase in duties demonstrates the “unreliability” of the US.
The Trump administration imposed 25 percent duties on car imports worldwide in 2025, but then came to an agreement with the European Union, reducing them to 15 percent.

In February 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court declared most of President Trump’s tariffs illegal, including “reciprocal” duties on imports from virtually every country in the world and 25 percent tariffs on goods from Canada, Mexico and China. According to the ruling, companies that have already paid the duties will be able to request a refund from the Treasury Department.
