Bălţi Municipality Mayor Alexandru Petcov said this morning that since March 17, the city’s gymnasiums and lyceums have temporarily switched to distance learning. The Commission for Emergency Situations operating in Balti Municipality recommended that vocational and higher education institutions consider the possibility of switching to online mode for the duration of the state of emergency.
At the same time, 40 tons of water from Chisinau were delivered to the city today, according to the decision of the commission for emergencies of the capital’s mayor’s office. It was accompanied by a group of specialists to support the Balti administration.
Problems with water supply in the north of Moldova
“We are waiting for the results of laboratory tests, on the basis of which the water supply to Balti was suspended, as well as for the data to be received from Romania,” Chisinau Mayor General Ion Ceban said via Telegram channel. The capital will help its neighbors until the situation stabilizes, he promised.
Problems with water supply in the north of Moldova started when oily stains were detected on the Dniester. To prevent toxic substances from entering the system, authorities in Soroca, Floresti and Balti stopped the operation of water intake stations. In Balti, they organized water delivery to the population, social, educational and medical institutions.
Until the centralized water supply is restored, water delivery by tanker trucks has been organized in the city. At the same time, pre-school institutions continue to function, tanks for storing drinking and technical water have been purchased.
