Identification card, like an ID card, is a plastic card with electronic data storage of ID-1 format, with the same dimensions (of a bank card). It is made on a polycarbonate base. The inscriptions on it are in Romanian and English. On the front side (in the upper right corner) there is the international symbol of the document with contactless integrated circuit. The background consists of stylized elements that include the state symbols, the name and map of the country, traditional Moldovan motifs.
Previously, the series and number consisted of one letter and eight digits (on the front side of the ID card). The new document consists of one letter and seven digits located on both sides of the card and encoded in a linear barcode on the reverse side. The data on the name of the issuing authority, the dates of issue and expiration have been retained.
The identification card bears a black-and-white photograph and a secondary reduced image of the photo in a variable optical marker and in a semi-transparent window, as well as the holder’s signature. Identification data of the holder – surname, first name, gender (previously not specified), citizenship, date of birth, identification number.
Since the accompanying insert, which indicated the place of residence and the date of registration at the place of residence, is canceled, now the address of the place of residence and/or temporary stay of the document holder can be found out through a QR code for access to government electronic resources (on the back side).
Electronic data storage is an integrated circuit with a dual interface, which stores in digital format the following data: surname, name, gender, citizenship, date of birth, identification number, series and number of the document, expiration date, document code and country code, biometric data of the owner, based on the circumstances: color image of the face, fingerprint image, qualified electronic signature certificate.
The Government decided that the first one million persons – citizens of the Republic of Moldova, who for the first time request an identity card within the maximum period of issuance (within 20 working days), will receive the identification card free of charge.
Those who already have a valid identity card of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova do not need to change it.
