This will enable the authorities to promptly identify and fine owners of vehicles registered abroad. Now, thanks to amendments to the Contravention Code, the police will be able to use the international EUCARIS system to search for data on cars caught on CCTV cameras.
According to the new rules, the offender will receive an official notification in the language of the country where the car is registered. This document will contain all the necessary information: from the circumstances of the violation and the amount of the fine to the driver’s rights and ways to appeal. For convenience, modern digital solutions are also provided – it will be possible to instantly go to the European information portal via a special QR code or a link. At the same time, the law protects the rights of drivers by allowing them to participate in the consideration of a case remotely, by means of videoconference.
For the implementation of this project, a special national contact point has been established at the Public Security Inspectorate, which will take over the international interaction. This reform is in line with European Union standards in the field of road safety and will officially enter into force on the day of Moldova’s accession to the EU, ensuring transparency and order on the country’s roads.
