“We congratulate the Principality of Monaco and wish it success in implementing this mandate! We are confident that the new chairmanship will contribute to strengthening cooperation and dialogue among the Council of Europe member states in the spirit of the organization’s fundamental values,” the Moldovan Foreign Ministry said.

Moldova reiterated its commitment to actively contribute to the achievement of the Council of Europe’s objectives, as well as to the promotion of democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

The meeting in Chisinau marked the end of Moldova’s chairmanship of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers. During its mandate, the country organized more than 30 events, including ministerial meetings and cultural initiatives both in Chisinau and Strasbourg.

This is the country’s second mandate since joining the organization; the first was in 2003.

The chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers is rotated among member states for a period of six months in alphabetical order of the English language. The handover usually takes place in mid-May and mid-November.
