Foreign diplomas will be recognized in Moldova automatically

The documents of graduation obtained abroad will be automatically recognized in Moldova. This measure is stipulated in the regulation prepared by the Ministry of Education and Research, which aims to simplify access to study and employment for those who studied in other countries.

The new rules apply to general education documents that allow students to continue their studies at the next level, including certificates of upper secondary school education, as well as bachelor’s or lyceum diplomas. Thus, graduates who studied abroad will be able to avoid lengthy and bureaucratic nostrification (equivalence) procedures.

The authorities claim that this measure will facilitate access to higher and vocational education, especially for citizens who have returned from the diaspora, as well as for pupils and students who have studied in other educational systems.

Refugees and persons under international protection in the Republic of Moldova will be able to request the European Qualifications Passport for Refugees (EQPR), a document that confirms the level of education and competences even in the absence of original documents.

The Ministry states that these changes are necessary to bring the legislation of the Republic of Moldova in line with European standards in the field of recognition of diplomas and qualifications in the context of the EU integration process.

The document is on the agenda of the government meeting scheduled for May 27.
