According to Mayor Alexandru Severin, the transport operator asked to increase the fares from 5 to 7 lei for adults and from 3 to 5 lei for children. The reason was a significant rise in the price of fuel and lubricants, especially diesel fuel and gasoline. In recent weeks, the carrier’s expenses have increased by more than 60%, which makes it impossible to maintain the previous fares.
“We understand the gravity of this situation. The Falesht Emergency Commission, the City Council, and myself have decided to support all passengers using public transportation on the station-city and Sugar Factory routes. We decided not to shift this burden on the shoulders of citizens. Given the difficult situation in the energy, fuel and food sectors, it was decided to intervene. Thus, we will cover the difference of 2 lei requested by the operator from the local budget. The final tariff for passengers will remain unchanged until the end of May,” Severin said.
The mayor also noted that a significant part of the passengers are children from the Gara Falesti neighborhood, who daily use the transport to get to the city lyceums.
“We believe we have made the right decision for our residents. Until the end of the school year 2025, we will monitor the price dynamics both at the world level and in the Republic of Moldova. After that, we will analyze the situation with the current tariff and, if necessary, we will decide on its possible modification,” he said.
To cover the compensations, the Făleşti City Council approved the allocation of about 75 thousand lei from the local budget.
