Economic Development and Digitalization Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu called the reform “bold” and said it would be implemented “very quickly and efficiently.”
“We are talking about any sector. I can give an example from agriculture: butter of 99% fat content, which is used for the production of ice cream. If it is imported as a final resource for the production of ice cream, it will be subject to zero customs duty. A nut that is used for the assembly of equipment: if it is intended for the final purpose of producing this equipment, it will also be with zero customs duty,” Osmochescu told public television.
The Minister emphasized that the main objective of the reform is to eliminate the chains of intermediaries, which today unjustifiably inflate the cost of resources for business.
“We are familiar with the situation when there are 2-3 intermediaries from the moment of importation until the goods reach the producer. As a consequence, prices rise. We are limiting these opportunities. We are reducing the chances to build certain businesses by enriching themselves at the expense of other entrepreneurs who produce,” explained Eugeniu Osmochescu.
In conclusion, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that any resources and equipment will be exempted from import duties if their final goal is precisely production, which will be a key condition for receiving the benefit.
