Central Asian countries coordinate interests in water and energy spheres

The heads of the energy agencies of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan agreed to strengthen coordination in the water and energy sector, Logos Press reported.

A trilateral meeting of energy ministers of the three countries, as well as a meeting of heads of specialized agencies was held in Tashkent. The parties discussed the current state of cooperation in water and energy resources management and issues of stable operation of the regional energy system.

Special attention was paid to coordination of power plants operation modes, observance of water use parameters and development of joint decisions in this regard.

The importance of mutual support during seasonal load periods and maintaining stable water levels in transboundary rivers to ensure energy security of the region was emphasized.

Following the meeting, a protocol was signed that consolidated the agreements and confirmed the intention to continue cooperation.

Earlier, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan agreed to jointly finance the construction of the Kambar-Ata-1 hydroelectric power plant to be located on the Naryn River in Kyrgyzstan.
