Parliament has demanded a report on oil and gas production in southern Moldova

Vasile Costiuc, a member of parliament and chair of the “Democrația Acasă” faction, announced an official inquiry sent to the government and the Ministry of Energy, demanding clarification regarding the management of oil and gas fields in southern Moldova, specifically in the villages of Veleni and Viktorovka.

Against the backdrop of the energy crisis, high fuel and natural gas prices, and recent statements by the Ministry of Energy regarding plans to expand hydrocarbon production in the country, Costiuc accused the authorities of years of inaction and a lack of transparency.

“We believe it is necessary to clarify the actual situation regarding the state’s own energy resources. For 30 years, the authorities have done practically nothing to seriously develop and exploit these oil and gas resources. In Velen, 18 pumps operate daily, and production is estimated at 300 tons of oil per month; in Viktorivka, about 10,000 tons of natural gas are produced per month,” Costiuc stated.

In this regard, the faction demands that the government provide answers to the following questions:

  1. Who manages and operates the oil and gas fields in Velen and Viktorivka?
  2. What revenues have been generated for the state budget from the exploitation of these resources, and have audits or other investigations been conducted regarding potential losses, including environmental damage, improper concessions, tax evasion, or fraudulent management?
  3. Which companies or individuals currently benefit from the exploitation and trade of extracted hydrocarbons, and who are the ultimate beneficiaries of these activities?
  4. What is the actual estimated volume of oil and natural gas reserves in southern Moldova, and what are the realistic prospects for expanding their production?
  5. What investments does the state plan to make for geological exploration, infrastructure development, and the development of the oil and gas sector, and does the Government intend to hold tenders or investment competitions to attract specialized companies?

The response will be provided in writing.
