Expenditure growth exceeded revenue growth
According to the document, in the first 4 months of 2026, the total state budget revenues amounted to 24,537.3 million lei. They increased by 1.7 per cent against the same period last year.
This sum includes revenues from taxes and fees amounting to 24,282.1 million lei, which grew by 1.4 per cent against last year. As well as revenues from projects financed from external sources. They reached 255.2 million lei. This is almost half (46.2%) more than in 2025.
It is worth mentioning that the growth of expenditures in this period significantly exceeded the growth of revenues. The sum of state budget expenditures and non-financial assets amounted to 30,322.4 million lei. Compared to the same period of 2025, the expenditures increased by 8.1% due to the growth of transfers and grants.
At the same time, the amount of grants received is noticeably lower than last year. It amounted to only 210 million lei against 1,767.5 million lei received during the same period in 2025.
As a result, the state budget deficit amounted to 5,785.1 million lei, which is 1,872.3 million lei more than in the same period in 2025.
At the same time, it was financed from internal sources in the amount of 7 billion 612 million lei and from external sources – 2 billion 877 million lei.
