According to the legislation, the enterprise should transfer at least 25% of its profit to the budget. But the Public Property Agency came out with a proposal to leave these funds at the disposal of the enterprise. It prepared a draft government resolution and proposed it for public discussion by May 15 this year.
According to the document, the money will be used to improve the automated information system, modernize the logistics infrastructure, renovate branches, renew the company’s vehicle fleet, purchase equipment for sorting items, as well as develop e-commerce and cashless services.
As noted in the explanatory note to the draft government resolution, the enterprise incurs significant costs to maintain the infrastructure of universal postal services in areas where economic activity does not fully cover the costs.
“Poșta Moldovei” is part of the economic system of the state
At the same time, these commitments of the enterprise are important for the equal access of the population, regardless of geographical location. In addition, “Poșta Moldovei” is part of the administrative and economic system of the state. It facilitates the circulation of official documents and commercial correspondence, having a direct impact on the economic life of the country.
It should be noted that between 2020 and 2022, the company incurred losses amounting to 72 million lei over the three-year period. Posta Moldovei used the revenue generated in 2023–2024 to cover the losses of previous years. According to the financial statements for 2025, its net profit fell to 5,637,910 lei. This decline was mainly due to the restructuring of the postal services market and the decline of its traditional segments. It was also due to an increase in operating costs: the company has a large network of post offices across the country, some of which are loss-making.
