The measure is aimed at updating the tariffs, which have not been revised since 2007 and today no longer correspond to the current economic realities. Currently, a university professor, doctor habilitatis, receives 38 lei per hour, while an associate professor receives 27 lei per hour.
Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun said that the current level of payment does not take into account the inflation accumulated over the last 20 years, which exceeds 200%, and makes it difficult to attract qualified experts to the evaluation processes.
According to the new provisions, the rates will increase by about 5.5 times – up to 178 lei per hour for habilitate doctors and up to 150 lei per hour for associate professors.
The authorities expect that this decision will make it possible to attract strong specialists to the evaluation of scientific works, improve the quality of expertise and strengthen the system of awarding scientific degrees in the country.
