
During the reporting period, the police units registered 20,126 crimes, a 4.7% decrease compared to the previous year. Almost one third of all cases occurred in Chisinau municipality, which maintains the status of the main center with the highest crime rate. The highest number of offenses is recorded in the Buiucani sector.
At the territorial level, the “top ten” regions with the highest number of crimes also include Balti, Cahul, Orhei, Ungheni, Causeni, Hincesti, Ialoveni, Drochia and Soroca.
In terms of serious crimes, there is a high level of detection: for example, out of 113 registered murders (against 123 a year earlier), in 98.4% of cases the perpetrators were identified.
The most common crimes remain fraud, driving under the influence of alcohol, drug offenses and hooliganism.
The overall national crime rate, based on the 2024 Census of Population and Housing, is 92.43 crimes per 10,000 residents.
