
The community invited all rabbis of active synagogues from both banks of the Nistru River to participate. According to the approved regulations, only rabbis representing religious organizations officially registered in the Republic of Moldova had the right to vote.
The participants were welcomed by Alexandru Bilinkis, Chairman of the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova, Vice-President of the World Jewish Congress, and Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt, Head of the Conference of European Rabbis.
Five out of eight rabbis voted for the candidacy of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Axelrod.
The election has already been welcomed in their addresses by Rabbi Shmuel Kaminetsky, Chief Rabbi of Dnipro (Ukraine), Rabbi Sholom Shuchat, rabbinical judge and arbitrator of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada, Rabbi Yehuda Elikim ben Shlomo Teichtal, Beit Din Tzedek (rabbinical court) of Berlin (Germany), colleagues and members of the Association Council and the Community Board of Trustees.
“We congratulate Rabbi Mendel Axelrod on his election and wish him wisdom, strength, inspiration and success in serving the Community, strengthening Jewish life, traditions and the unity of the Jewish people in Moldova,” the YRM said in a statement.
