The relevant changes are stipulated in the draft amendments to the government decree on the creation and maintenance of gas safety stocks. The document was considered at a recent meeting of general secretaries.

The draft was elaborated by the Energy Ministry, which explains that the increase in the reserves is due to the actualization of consumption calculations and the need to strengthen the stability of the energy system. According to the authorities’ calculations, the volume corresponds to about 10 days of winter gas consumption, based on data from the previous heating season.

According to the law, strategic reserves are formed to ensure the country’s energy security and are used in case of crisis situations in the gas sector.

Financing of gas storage does not require funds from the state budget – the costs are covered by gas suppliers on the retail market.

Draft amendments to the government decree on the creation and maintenance of gas safety reserves are currently undergoing public consultations. The deadline for comments is May 12.
