Osmokescu made these statements at the “Reinvent Moldova 2.0” event against the backdrop of the current geopolitical situation, which he described as a catastrophe.

“I am a convinced federalist in the sense of those who created the European Union, because there is no other way. The European Union was created as a result of catastrophic events. Unfortunately, we are now in a situation where we have a similar crisis happening right next to us – Russia’s war against Ukraine. We have many conflicts that affect us both psychologically and economically. This geopolitical situation has a huge economic impact on Moldova, as well as on the whole region. All these problems will persist for some time, so we have to think in terms of society, the community we live in, the business environment, the ecosystem and, of course, the state as such,” Osmokescu said.

He emphasized Moldova’s geopolitical position between East and West and reiterated the authorities’ commitment to the European course.

“I will repeat: I am a convinced federalist. The European path leads to the very prosperous life we are talking about, including the growth of citizens’ welfare. We are implementing reforms quickly and quite effectively. The economic growth plan is something unique, other EU candidate countries have not had anything like it,” the minister said.

In this context, he reiterated the “ambitious plan”: signing the EU Accession Treaty in 2028 and obtaining membership in 2030.

“If we keep our word – and we will – anything is possible. Everything we do today will be reflected during the accession negotiation period, but it is especially important to think two steps ahead – about the European Union’s structural funds, which all member states benefit from,” he emphasized.

The Minister concluded with a message of optimism and collective responsibility: “I am an optimist. I am a positive person. We must think positively and work together for the prosperity of our state”.
