
Prosecutors of the Chernivtsi regional prosecutor’s office together with detectives of the BEB, the National Police and the SBU have stopped a large-scale scheme of illegal export of timber to Moldova. This is reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, writes UNN.

The investigation found that the organizer – the head of a private enterprise in 2024-2025 years bought unaccounted timber, registered it under false documents of origin and exported abroad. Entrepreneurs, forestry workers and drivers who provided transportation of illegally harvested timber were involved in this activity.
On April 22, 2026 in Chernivtsi region conducted 26 searches at woodworking enterprises, in warehouses and offices, vehicles and places of residence of the persons involved, – stated in the message.
About 1,000 m³ of timber (round wood), shipping documents and tags for labeling were seized. Also cash: more than 48 thousand euros, $4.5 thousand and more than 500 thousand UAH, as well as cell phones, video recorders and draft records. The total value of the seized goods is about UAH 10 mln.
Two managers of private enterprises of forestry and woodworking industry were reported on suspicion under part 2 of Art. 201-1 of the Criminal Code. 2 Art. 201-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
All participants of the scheme are being identified, including those in Moldova.
